The Somali National News Agency has for the first time after the late regime of Siyaad Barre opened its office in Baidoa town the capital headquarters of Baay region of Somalia and the current base for the autonomous State of Southwest.

The opening ceremony of the SONNA office was attended by the Minister for Information of the Southwest State honorable Hassan Mohamed Abdi, the director general of the Ministry of Information and Tourism of the federal republic of Somalia honorable Abdirizak Yusuf Bahlawi, the director of the Somali National News Agency, Abrihaman Sheikh Yusuf Aladala and the director for staffs and trainings of the Ministry of Information and other government officials.

"It is immense pleasure to reopen SONNA office which has been inactive since the country went into mayhem in 1991, and currently we are engaged in a vast plan in which we are intending to reopen the entire SONNA office across the country and as well open new station in the future” said SONNA director Abdirahman Aladala.

The director general of the Ministry of Information of the federal government of Somalia has wholeheartedly thanked the administration of the Southwest State for their brotherly welcome and the facilitation of the reopening of SONNA office in Baidoa.

"On behalf of the Southwest State, I would like to say that we highly welcome the reopening of SONNA office in Baidoa town and any other development work of the Ministry of Information of the federal government” said Southwest State Minister for Information H.E. Hassn Abdi Mohamed.

It was just recently when SONNA has opened its office in the port town of Kismayo under the administration of the regional State of Jubbaland.
