The State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mr. Abdulkadir Ahmed-Kheir Abdi, participated in the 33rd Ordinary session of the African Union (AU) Executive Council held in Nouakchott, Mauritania, in preparation for the 31st Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit on July 1st and 2nd.

The Somali participation in the African summit and preparatory meetings comes within the framework of Somalia's constant concern to interact with the issues of the African continent as a founding member of the African Union (AU), previously known as th Organization of African Unity (OAU).

The African Union Foreign Ministers' Conference, which took place from June 28-29 in Nouakchott, focused on the institutional reform process, the draft 2019 AU budget, appoint the AU Board of External Auditors, the developments of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM), African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the Protocol to the Treaty Establishing the African Economic Community Relating to the Free Movement of Persons and the future of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement with the European Union and prepare the draft agenda for the meeting of Heads of State and Government, among other business.
